What is Helen, and what does it do?
Helen
is the acne laser at Boom Dermatology for inflamed acne: a full-face pass that targets the inflamed sebaceous glands and the dilated vessels around active spots, so redness settles, active lesions shrink faster and fewer new ones inflame while the medication does its slower work. It is a gentle, no-downtime session, which is the point: a teenager, a visitor on a short trip or an adult with a work week can have it between other things, every two to three weeks, as the procedural half of the acne plan. It does not replace the medication that treats the disease, and it is not a scar device.
In Seomyeon, Helen is the first laser the doctor adds for red, inflamed acne at any age, priced to be a course: ₩220,000 a session or ₩825,000 for five. For oily skin with more congestion than inflammation, E-MAX; for the dark marks after, acne toning; for the spots that keep returning to the same place, Agnes; for the scars, the scar plan
once it is quiet.

The visit
What happens at a Helen session in Seomyeon?
This is how a Helen visit runs at Boom Dermatology, a skin clinic in Seomyeon, Busan, from the first message to the review.
1
Message first
A daylight photo without make-up and what bothers you. The doctor replies with the device, the likely session count and the VAT-included price.
2
Consultation
Pigment is separated from redness, melasma is screened for, previous lasers and sun exposure are asked. Device and settings go on your record.
3
Cleanse and cool
Make-up off, eye shields on; cooling gel or numbing cream depending on the device.
4
Test pulses, then the pass
A few test pulses on the jawline to read the response, then the full pass by the doctor.
5
Out the door
Sunscreen before you leave; make-up from the same evening for toning, the next day for vascular work.
6
Review and rhythm
A photo at two to four weeks sets the interval; a review at the fifth session decides continue, stop or switch.
How does Boom Dermatology dose Helen?
Helen is dosed by energy and pass count to the degree of inflammation; the doctor sets it per visit and writes it on your record.
Inflamed glands and vessels
The pass targets the active, red lesions and the capillaries around them.
Gentle, no downtime
A flush for an hour; no crusting, no peeling; suitable for teenagers.
Two to three weeks, five times
Runs alongside the first months of medication, when calming matters most.

Questions, answered properly
What does an acne laser actually do to a spot?
Reduces the inflammation and the blood supply around it, so the spot shrinks and reddens less, and calms the gland so it is less likely to flare again soon. It does not clear the pore or change the hormones driving it; that is what the medication and extraction in the plan at Boom Dermatology are for.
Does Helen work without medication?
It calms acne for a while without it; it does not control acne without it. For mild inflamed acne a course of Helen plus a topical retinoid can be enough; for moderate or severe acne the laser is support and the medication is treatment, and we say so before you buy a course.
Is it suitable for teenagers and sensitive skin?
Yes; it is the acne laser we use for teenagers at our Seomyeon skin clinic, with a parent present, because it has no downtime and does not irritate. Settings are lowered for sensitive skin and raised with tolerance.
How many sessions, and how far apart?
Five, two to three weeks apart, timed to the first two or three months of medication; the course price is ₩825,000, bought as a course or one at a time at ₩220,000.
Helen or E-MAX?
Helen for acne that is red and inflamed; E-MAX for acne that is oily and congested, with blackheads and enlarged pores. Faces with both alternate them, and patients at Boom Dermatology in Busan on a short trip often have one of each a week apart.
