What is Agnes, and what does it do?

Agnes is a precision radiofrequency device with a single insulated microneedle. The needle is placed into the target, an acne-prone sebaceous gland, a syringoma, a small fat pocket under the eye, and RF energy is released only at the tip, so the structure is destroyed while the skin it passed through is untouched. It was designed in Korea for the acne that comes back in the same place: destroy the gland and that spot has nothing to flare from. The same mechanism shrinks the tiny sweat-gland tumours called syringomas under the eyes, and reduces under-eye fat without surgery.

Downtime after Agnes, and flying home

Honestly stated: swelling around treated units on day one, pinpoint crusts for two to three days, more under the eye. Make-up from day two; fly after 24 hours. Treated units stop recurring from the first session.

Why does the same spot keep coming back in the same place?

Because the oil gland under it is enlarged and inflamed, and medication, peels and most lasers treat the skin around the gland rather than the gland itself. Each time it refills it flares in the same place. Agnes puts the needle into that gland and destroys it; the spot has nothing left to flare from. That is the single thing it does better than anything else at Boom Dermatology.

How is this different from the acne lasers and peels I have tried?

Those treat the whole face at once and reduce oil, bacteria and inflammation across it; good for widespread acne, weak against a fixed unit. Agnes treats nothing across the face and everything at one point. Most patients with persistent acne at our Seomyeon skin clinic need both: the programme for the skin, Agnes for the units that survive it.

Can it reduce under-eye fat without surgery?

For a mild fat pad, yes: the needle reaches the fat and the RF shrinks it over one to three sessions, with two or three days of swelling. For a large bag with loose skin it cannot, and we say so; that is a surgical question and we will tell you plainly rather than sell sessions.

How much swelling, and can I work through it?

Day one is visibly swollen around each treated unit, more under the eyes. Day two is pinpoint crusts under make-up; day three is at your desk. Plan the session at the start of a trip, not the day before a flight home, and not inside a week of an event.

Is the result permanent, or does the acne return?

A treated gland does not return; the result for that unit is lasting. New glands elsewhere can become active, which is why the course is five sessions mapped fresh each time, and why the acne programme continues around it.
