What Is Fotona Spot Removal?

Fotona uses the Er:YAG wavelength at 2940nm, absorbed by water more completely than any other resurfacing wavelength. Applied to a lesion, it vaporises tissue at the point of contact in thin controlled layers — the doctor removes precisely to the depth required and stops, without heat conducting into the surrounding skin.

That control is why it suits facial and delicate-zone lesions particularly well: less thermal damage means less inflammation, and less inflammation means lower post-inflammatory pigmentation risk on Asian skin. It matters most on faces and in pigment-prone skin. CO2 conducts heat into surrounding tissue, which helps with deeper lesions and coagulation but leaves more inflammation behind — and inflammation is what drives post-inflammatory pigmentation. Er:YAG spends nearly all its energy vaporising water at the contact point, so I remove in thin layers and stop exactly at the base with markedly less thermal margin. At our Busan clinic facial and delicate-zone lesions go to Fotona; deeper or bulkier lesions still go to CO2, and I say which before the numbing goes on.

Should every mole be checked before removal?

Yes, without exception, and any clinic willing to skip that step is the wrong clinic. The overwhelming majority of moles people want removed are entirely benign, but the assessment exists for the small number that are not — and laser removal destroys the tissue, so a lesion removed without assessment can never be examined afterwards. At our Busan clinic every lesion is examined before treatment, atypical features are referred for proper medical assessment rather than lasered, and this adds minutes rather than cost.

Will it leave a mark where the mole was?

A pinpoint crust for seven to ten days, then a pink point that blends over the following weeks — that is the normal course, and it looks worse at day five than the final result suggests. Lasting marks are uncommon when crusts are left alone and sun is avoided, which is why those two instructions carry more weight than anything else in the aftercare. Deeper lesions requiring more removal carry proportionally more risk of a residual mark, and at our Busan clinic that is stated at mapping rather than discovered at week four.
