Mounjaro in Busan Seomyeon, prescribed by an internal medicine specialist
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly GLP-1 and GIP injection for weight management, and in Korea it is prescribed, not sold: assessed in person, against a BMI criterion, one month at a time, dispensed by a pharmacy. At Boom Dermatology the assessment is by an internal medicine specialist, the consultation is priced at the visit and the medicine at the Korean pharmacy price, the same for every patient, in a skin clinic one minute from Seomyeon Station.

What is Mounjaro, who qualifies for it in Korea, and how does a visitor get it in Busan?
Mounjaro
is tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection that mimics two gut hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, which slow stomach emptying, reduce appetite and improve the body's handling of sugar. In trials it produced larger average weight loss than the single-hormone medicines, which is why patients ask for it by name, and why the Mounjaro-versus-Wegovy question
has its own page. It is started at a low dose and stepped up every four weeks as tolerated, which is the reason the first months are the nauseous ones and the reason a prescription is one month at a time.
In Korea it is a prescription medicine
with rules the doctor at Boom Dermatology applies as written: an in-person assessment; a body mass index of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia or sleep apnoea; no contraindication, of which a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, MEN2, pancreatitis and pregnancy are the firm ones; and dispensing by a pharmacy, not the clinic, at the Korean price. The doctor is an internal medicine specialist, which is the specialty that manages metabolic medicines and the reason a skin clinic can prescribe this one properly. Patients already on tirzepatide at home can be continued at their current dose with evidence of it. What a visitor can take home, customs and supply are on the international patients page; what it costs and why, on the cost page; and what it does to the face, with the plan for that, on the Mounjaro face page.

Message first
Height, weight, conditions, current medications and your dates. The doctor replies with whether an assessment is worth the visit and what to bring.

4
Pharmacy and first injection
Dispensed by the pharmacy next door at the Korean price; the first pen shown and the first dose given in the clinic if you want it.

Questions, answered properly
Can I get Mounjaro in Korea as a foreigner?
Yes, on the same terms as a Korean patient: an in-person assessment by a doctor, the criteria met, a prescription for one month, dispensed by a pharmacy. There is no foreigner surcharge and no foreigner shortcut. At Boom Dermatology the doctor who assesses you is an internal medicine specialist, and the first message will say whether your numbers make the visit worthwhile.
What BMI do I need, and will you check it?
Thirty or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition, and yes, you are weighed and measured at the visit; a reported number is not enough. A patient at 26 with no condition is declined, and told so before flying, because the rule is the rule and the medicine is not harmless.
I am already on it at home. Can you continue my dose?
Yes, with evidence of the current dose, a prescription, a pharmacy label or the pen itself, and the assessment done here as for any patient. You are continued, not restarted at 2.5 mg, and prescribed a month at a time. Our Seomyeon skin clinic does this for visitors and expats every week.
How much can I take back with me?
One month per prescription, which is what Korean rules allow, and your own country's customs rules decide what you may bring in; most allow a personal supply with the prescription. The international patients page sets out the practicalities, including keeping the pens cool in transit.
What are the side effects, honestly?
Nausea in most people in the first weeks, worst for two or three days after each step-up; reduced appetite, which is the point; constipation or loose stools; tiredness. Rarely, pancreatitis, gallbladder problems or severe dehydration, which are reasons to stop and call. Patients at Boom Dermatology in Busan are given the eating advice that reduces the nausea and a number to call.
