What is UltraClear, and what does it do?

UltraClear is a fibre laser emitting at 2910 nm, the wavelength water absorbs most strongly, delivered through a cold-fibre system that ablates skin with very little residual heat. That matters in two ways. The ablation is precise and shallow or deep as set, so it does what CO2 does, vaporising columns of skin so the dermis rebuilds from the base, without CO2's thermal spread; and the low heat means less post-inflammatory darkening on Asian skin, less pain, and healing in five to seven days rather than ten. It has modes from a light, almost no-downtime "glow" pass to a deep fractional resurfacing for scars, and at Boom Dermatology it is used at the deep end, where the ₩1,540,000 session replaces a course.

In Seomyeon the doctor reaches for UltraClear for deep acne scar fields, heavy texture and sun damage that the RF and non-ablative tiers would take many sessions to approach, and as the ablative choice on pigment-prone skin where CO2 would be too hot. It sits at the top of the resurfacing and scar plans; Potenza and Scorpio are the needle tiers below it, Moxi the non-ablative one.

What Busan patients ask before UltraClear
  • Is this a CO2 laser? What does cold-fibre mean?
  • Why one session at ₩1,540,000 rather than a course of cheaper ones?
  • How much downtime, day by day?
  • Is it safer than CO2 on Asian skin?
  • UltraClear or Potenza for my scars?

All of these come up most weeks at our Seomyeon skin clinic. The page answers them in order.

02 Who it suits

Who is UltraClear for?

Good candidates

  • Deep acne scar fields on cheeks and temples
  • Heavy texture that lighter tiers have not changed
  • Sun damage with lines and roughness together
  • Pigment-prone skin that needs ablation with the least heat
  • Patients who want one deep session rather than a long course

We will suggest something else

  • Active acne; finish the acne programme first
  • Melasma; even cold ablation is used with great caution
  • Isotretinoin in the last six months; keloid tendency
  • Tanned skin; pregnancy
  • Anyone who cannot give a week; the lighter tiers exist for that

03 The visit

What happens at an UltraClear session in Seomyeon?

This is how an UltraClear visit runs at Boom Dermatology, a skin clinic in Seomyeon, Busan, from the first message to the review.

1

Message first

A daylight photo without make-up and what bothers you. The doctor replies with the device, the likely session count and the VAT-included price.

2

Consultation

Pigment is separated from redness, melasma is screened for, previous lasers and sun exposure are asked. Device and settings go on your record.

3

Cleanse and cool

Make-up off, eye shields on; cooling gel or numbing cream depending on the device.

4

Test pulses, then the pass

A few test pulses on the jawline to read the response, then the full pass by the doctor.

5

Out the door

Sunscreen before you leave; make-up from the same evening for toning, the next day for vascular work.

6

Review and rhythm

A photo at two to four weeks sets the interval; a review at the fifth session decides continue, stop or switch.

How does Boom Dermatology dose UltraClear?

UltraClear is dosed by depth, density and the mode chosen for the problem; the doctor maps the face first and writes the settings on your record.

2910 nm, cold fibre

Maximum water absorption, minimal residual heat; ablation without the thermal spread of CO2.

Depth and density per field

Deep and dense over scars, lighter over texture, superficial for a glow pass.

Three months, then review

One session does most of the work; a second only if the three-month photo asks for it.

07 Questions, answered properly

Is this a CO2 laser? What does cold-fibre mean?

Not CO2. CO2 emits at 10,600 nm and leaves a zone of heat around every column; UltraClear emits at 2910 nm through a fibre, where water absorbs the energy so completely that the tissue is vaporised with almost no heat left behind. Same ablative result, far less thermal injury, which is why healing is shorter and darkening rarer. At Boom Dermatology it is the ablative we reach for first on Asian skin.

Why one session at ₩1,540,000 rather than a course of cheaper ones?

Because a deep ablative session rebuilds in one visit what five sessions of RF approach, and for a deep pitted field it reaches a result the needles cannot. For shallow scars and texture the cheaper course is the right choice and we say so; the price is on this page so the arithmetic is yours.

How much downtime, day by day?

Days one and two red and swollen with ointment; days three to seven peeling; weeks two and three pink under make-up; then months of the skin quietly filling. Three days before a flight, seven before you look untreated. Our Seomyeon skin clinic books it at the start of a trip.

Is it safer than CO2 on Asian skin?

Materially, yes: less residual heat means less post-inflammatory darkening, which is the risk every ablative setting on Asian skin is designed around. It is still an ablative laser, still fractional only, still with sunscreen and a pigment-calming regimen, and still not used on melasma.

UltraClear or Potenza for my scars?

Potenza for rolling fields and shallow boxcar scars, with one to three days of downtime and a course; UltraClear for deep pitted fields and heavy texture, in one session with a week. Many plans at Boom Dermatology in Busan use Potenza first and UltraClear once for what remains.
