What Is Fotona Peeling?

A measured layer, removed on purpose.

Fotona peeling applies the Er:YAG wavelength across the full surface rather than in fractional columns. Because 2940nm is absorbed almost entirely by water at the point of contact, the laser removes a uniform layer to a depth the doctor sets — and stops there, with minimal heat conducted into the tissue below.

That is the essential difference from an acid peel, where depth depends on concentration, contact time, skin thickness and how your skin happens to respond on the day. Here the depth is a setting. How is a laser peel different from a chemical peel?

Control. With acid, depth is the product of concentration, contact time, how many layers I apply and how your skin responds that day — experienced practitioners manage those variables well, but they remain variables. With Er:YAG the depth is a number I set on the machine, and the laser removes that much and stops, because the wavelength is consumed by water at the point of contact. That predictability is the whole argument, and it matters most on pigment-prone skin where an acid peel that ran deeper than intended can leave marks for months. At our Busan clinic both have a place; the laser peel is what I choose when depth control is the priority.

Full-field removes a continuous layer, so the whole surface renews together and the tone change reads dramatically after a single session, at the cost of a genuine peeling week. Is a peel safe on Asian skin?

With Er:YAG and honest depth setting, it is among the safer ablative routes — the low thermal load is precisely what keeps post-inflammatory pigmentation risk manageable, since inflammation rather than ablation drives PIH. The non-negotiables at our Busan clinic: a strict two-week no-tan rule before treatment, conservative depth on the first session, and absolute sun avoidance on the fresh skin afterwards.
