What is Potenza, and what does it do?

Potenza (Cynosure) is a radiofrequency microneedling platform: a cartridge of fine needles enters the skin to a set depth and releases RF energy from the tips, heating the dermis in a controlled zone around each needle so collagen contracts and rebuilds over the following weeks, while the surface, pierced only by the needle, heals in a day or two. What sets Potenza apart is the tip library: insulated needles that heat only at the tip for pigment-prone skin, non-insulated needles for a broader zone, single-needle tips for individual scars, and a "pumping" tip that creates a vacuum as the needles withdraw, drawing a topical booster into the channels. Depth runs from under a millimetre for pores to several for scar bases.

Downtime after Potenza, and flying home

Honestly stated: red and warm for the first evening, pinpoint marks and mild swelling on day one, faint pinkness under make-up on days two and three. Fly after 24 hours. Texture smooths from week two; scars lift from week six.

RF microneedling versus plain microneedling: what does the RF add?

Heat where it counts. A plain needle makes a channel and the skin heals it; an RF needle makes the channel and heats the dermis around it, so collagen contracts and rebuilds in a zone rather than along a line. The difference is a scar field that changes in three sessions rather than ten, and pores that tighten rather than only clear. At Boom Dermatology plain microneedling is not on the list for that reason.

What are the different tips for, and what is the pumping tip?

Insulated tips heat only at the needle tip, protecting the surface on pigment-prone skin; non-insulated tips heat the whole needle length for a broader zone on resilient skin; single-needle tips treat one scar at a time. The pumping tip creates suction as the needles withdraw, pulling a booster applied on the surface into the channels: Rejuran or Re2O after a scar pass, the way an exosome add-on is marketed, with an approved injectable instead.

Potenza or CO2 for my acne scars?

Potenza first, for most faces: it remodels rolling and shallow boxcar fields from below with one to three days of downtime, and Scorpio handles the tethered pits alongside it. CO2 fractional is for the deep pitted field that needles cannot lift, at the cost of a week. The stretch test at our Seomyeon skin clinic shows which scars are which.

How red will I be, and for how long?

Red and warm the first evening, like a sunburn; pinpoint marks and mild swelling on day one; faint pink under make-up on days two and three; nothing by day four. Book it on a Friday and be at your desk on Monday.
