What is Rejuran, and what does it do?

Rejuran is the polynucleotide (PN) booster that made "salmon DNA" a household phrase in Korea. Purified DNA fragments from salmon, which are biologically compatible with human tissue, are placed in the dermis in a grid of microdroplets, where they signal fibroblasts to repair: the skin thickens, inflammation settles, elasticity returns and texture evens out over a course of three sessions. It is a repair treatment rather than a filler or a stimulator, which is why it is the first choice for skin that is thin, reactive, sun-damaged or worn by years of acne treatment.

Downtime after Rejuran, and flying home

Honestly stated: small wheals at each injection point for one to three days, visible up close on day one and flat by day three, plus a possible bruise. Make-up from the next morning; fly the same evening. Plan three days before anything you want to look perfect for.

What are polynucleotides, and why salmon?

Polynucleotides are short chains of DNA. Salmon DNA is used because its structure is close enough to human DNA to be recognised by our cells without triggering an immune response, and because it can be purified to pharmaceutical grade from a renewable source. In the dermis, PN fragments act as signals that tell fibroblasts to repair and rebuild, which is a different mechanism from filling a space or stimulating with a foreign particle.

Is this repair, or is it filling?

Repair. Rejuran adds almost no volume; what changes is the skin itself, thickness, elasticity, evenness, reactivity, over a course. Patients who want a hollow filled need filler; patients who want a deflated face rebuilt need a stimulator. Patients whose skin is simply worn, thin and unhappy need Rejuran, and the doctor at Boom Dermatology will say which you are.

Will I have visible bumps afterwards?

Yes, for one to three days. The wheals are the product sitting in the dermis where it works; they flatten as it absorbs. Day one looks dotted up close, day two faintly, day three normal. It is the one real downtime of Rejuran and the reason we ask about events before booking.

Which Rejuran should I start with?

HB, for most faces: PN plus hyaluronic acid, so you get hydration while the repair builds. Healer, if your skin is clearly damaged by years of acne, sun or treatment. I, for the under-eye only. Is one session worth doing?

One session gives two weeks of glow and a little calming; it does not thicken the skin. The structural change comes from three sessions two to four weeks apart, because each round builds on the repair of the last.
