What is BBL Hero, and what does it do?
BBL Hero
(Sciton) is broadband light: not a single-wavelength laser but a filtered flash across a range of wavelengths, chosen per pass to target melanin (brown), haemoglobin (red) or both. HERO is the high-speed, high-output version, which treats the whole face in a few minutes of continuous sweeping rather than spot by spot, with strong cooling at the crystal. It is the treatment for the photoaged face: freckles, sun spots, blotchy redness, a rough, dull surface, all in one session, and the long Sciton record on repeated BBL shows skin that keeps looking younger on a yearly schedule.
At Boom Dermatology in Seomyeon, BBL Hero is what we suggest when the problem is everywhere rather than in one place: red and brown mixed across the cheeks, chest or hands. For individual vessels and spots, Excel V+
is more precise; for deep or stubborn pigment, picosecond; for texture with the pigment, Moxi, which is often paired with BBL in the same visit. Patients who ask for StarLux or IPL are shown what we use instead.

Who it suits
Who is BBL Hero for?
Good candidates
Sun-damaged skin with freckles, spots and redness mixed across the face
Blotchy chest, neck and hands
Diffuse redness with sun spots that toning alone has not cleared
Patients who want one whole-face session rather than a long course
Yearly maintenance of a cleared face
We will suggest something else
Melasma, where broadband heat can rebound; the doctor decides case by case
Darker skin types, where 1064 nm or RF is used instead
Tanned or sunburned skin now; wait four weeks
An event or photographs inside a week; the flaking is visible
Pregnancy; photosensitising medication

The visit
What happens at a BBL Hero session in Seomyeon?
This is how a BBL Hero visit runs at Boom Dermatology, a skin clinic in Seomyeon, Busan, from the first message to the review.
1
Message first
A daylight photo without make-up and what bothers you. The doctor replies with the device, the likely session count and the VAT-included price.
2
Consultation
Pigment is separated from redness, melasma is screened for, previous lasers and sun exposure are asked. Device and settings go on your record.
3
Cleanse and cool
Make-up off, eye shields on; cooling gel or numbing cream depending on the device.
4
Test pulses, then the pass
A few test pulses on the jawline to read the response, then the full pass by the doctor.
5
Out the door
Sunscreen before you leave; make-up from the same evening for toning, the next day for vascular work.
6
Review and rhythm
A photo at two to four weeks sets the interval; a review at the fifth session decides continue, stop or switch.
How does Boom Dermatology dose BBL Hero?
BBL Hero is dosed by filter, energy and pass count per area, after test pulses; brown and red get different filters in the same session.
Filter to the colour
Shorter filters for freckles and spots, longer for redness; both in one session where the face is mixed.
Energy after test pulses
Three test pulses on the jawline set the fluence; settings go on your record.
Three, then yearly
Three sessions four to six weeks apart clear the damage; one or two a year keep it.

Downtime
Downtime after BBL Hero, and flying home
Honestly stated: spots darken within hours and flake off over two to five days, like coffee grounds on the skin; redness for a day. Make-up from the next morning covers most of it; fly after 24 hours. The clear skin underneath shows at a week.

Questions, answered properly
Is BBL just IPL with a new name?
It is IPL done properly: the same broadband principle with better filters, stronger cooling and, in the HERO version, enough speed and output to sweep a whole face evenly rather than stamp it. The results that older IPL promised and under-delivered are what BBL Hero reliably gives at Boom Dermatology, which is why we chose it over a StarLux-type platform.
My whole face is blotchy, red and brown. Is one device enough?
Usually, yes. BBL Hero treats brown with one filter and red with another in the same session, across the whole face, which is exactly the blotchy, sun-damaged pattern it was built for. Individual stubborn vessels or a deep spot may get an Excel V+ or picosecond pulse at the review, but the first session is one device.
How long do the dark flakes show?
Two to five days, darkest on day two, covered by make-up from the morning after. Video calls on days two and three show a slightly dotted face without make-up; with it, nobody notices. Book at the start of a trip, not before an event.
Is broadband light safe on Asian skin?
Safe on lighter Asian skin with test pulses and conservative settings, which is how it is used at our Seomyeon skin clinic; avoided on darker skin and used cautiously in melasma, where the doctor may choose 1064 nm toning or Sylfirm X instead. Post-inflammatory darkening is the risk every setting is designed around.
Can I do BBL and Moxi on the same day?
Yes, and it is the most common pairing: BBL first for colour, Moxi after for texture and the pigment in the upper skin. The downtime overlaps, three to five days, so you pay for it once. Patients at Boom Dermatology in Busan on a short trip often book the pair on day one and fly on day three.
