InMode is the most misunderstood device on our lifting menu — not because it is complicated, but because its two handpieces get sold everywhere as a bundle without anyone explaining which one does what. This deep-dive fixes that. FX and Forma are different tools for different tissue jobs: one resurfaces and tightens through fractional radiofrequency, the other firms through comfortable bulk heating. Together they occupy a specific slot between HIFU's deep lift and a thread's mechanical pull — the affordable, repeatable, no-downtime slot. Here is what each genuinely treats, what the jawline can and cannot expect, and whether the monthly schedule is physiology or salesmanship.

Does This Sound Familiar?

You have seen InMode advertised everywhere. Clarity, less so.

  • Every clinic bundle lists 'InMode' without saying which handpiece, for which problem.
  • You want your jawline tighter and cannot tell if this is the right tool or a consolation prize.
  • A big HIFU or Thermage session is not in this year's budget, but doing nothing feels worse.
  • Your skin is oily and congested and losing firmness — two problems, and you want one plan.
  • Monthly sessions were prescribed somewhere and you suspect the schedule serves the clinic.

All five are the exact confusions this page exists to end. Two handpieces, two jobs, one honest map of where InMode belongs in your plan.

What is InMode, in one honest paragraph?

InMode is a radiofrequency platform — a base unit that powers interchangeable handpieces, of which our configuration runs the two that matter for facial maintenance: FX and Forma. Radiofrequency heats tissue by electrical resistance rather than light, which is why it works on every skin tone and why its specialty is the dermis — the collagen layer whose slow contraction is what patients feel as firmness.

The platform framing matters because "InMode" alone tells you nothing, the way "Toyota" names no particular car. Any clinic listing it owes you the next sentence — which handpieces, doing what — and any comparison with other machines starts from that answer. The physics family it belongs to is mapped in RF devices compared.

What does FX actually do?

FX is fractional radiofrequency: energy delivered through a grid of contact points, creating controlled micro-zones of dermal heating with untouched tissue between them. That architecture does two jobs at once — the healing of each micro-zone rebuilds collagen for tightening, while the fractional pattern resurfaces: pore refinement, texture smoothing, and a modest brightening that oily, congested skin notices first.

Think of FX as the treatment half of the pair: a defined series — typically three to four sessions — with visible texture change as the deliverable. Redness settles within hours to a day, which keeps it inside the no-downtime menu, and it pairs naturally with skin botox for the oil-and-pore cluster.

What does Forma actually do?

Forma is bulk heating — a smooth gliding handpiece that raises the dermis to collagen-stimulating temperature and holds it there, with real-time thermal monitoring keeping the experience warm rather than painful. No grid, no micro-injuries, no redness of consequence: patients routinely describe it as the most comfortable energy treatment they have had.

Its job is firmness maintenance: gentle, cumulative tightening along the jawline, cheeks and brow that builds across a series rather than announcing itself after one session. Forma is the repeatable half of the pair — the treatment you can have at lunch, monthly, indefinitely, which is precisely why it anchors the maintenance slot described in a year of maintenance.

FX or Forma — which one is the real treatment?

Both, for different definitions of real — the add-on framing is the misunderstanding. FX is episodic and corrective: a short series aimed at texture, pores and tightening, then done until skin drifts again. Forma is continuous and preventive: low-intensity firming repeated on a schedule, holding ground rather than seizing it. One renovates; the other maintains the building.

In practice many plans use both — an FX series to correct, Forma to hold the result — and a same-session combination is routine at 45 minutes total. Which you need first is a skin assessment, not a menu choice: the consultation logic in how a Korean consultation works settles it in minutes, from your skin rather than from a package sheet.

A 45-minute session with no downtime — the maintenance slot between HIFU rounds.

What can the jawline honestly expect?

Precision matters here, because jawline softness has two different causes and RF addresses one of them well. Where the blur is laxity — skin and superficial tissue losing spring — Forma's cumulative firming and FX's tightening genuinely sharpen the line, and sustained thermal series can modestly remodel the superficial fullness above it. That is InMode's honest jawline lane.

Where the fullness is a true fat pad under the chin, RF firming is the wrong first tool, and we will say so: that anatomy is diagnosed and routed properly in double chin, what causes it, sometimes toward entirely different treatments. The distinction between tightening skin and removing fat is exactly the kind their marketing blurs and the jowls guide keeps straight.

Where does InMode sit between HIFU and threads?

Map the lifting menu by depth and mechanism and the slot is obvious. HIFU — Shurink, Ultherapy — focuses energy at the SMAS layer for foundational lift, per the HIFU comparison. Threads pull mechanically and immediately. InMode works shallower, in the dermis, where firmness and texture live.

That makes it a companion, not a competitor: the between-rounds maintenance while a HIFU result matures, the texture layer threads cannot touch, the entry point when bigger sessions exceed this year's budget. The full decision tree across all three approaches is drawn in threads or energy lifting — InMode is the answer to a different question than either.

Is the monthly schedule physiology or salesmanship?

Physiology, with a caveat worth stating. Low-intensity RF works by accumulation: each session's collagen stimulus is modest by design — that is what makes it comfortable and downtime-free — so the visible result is the running total of a series, typically monthly for four to six sessions, then spaced maintenance. Skipping to one session and judging the device misreads the mechanism, as why some treatments need a course explains.

The caveat: monthly forever is a choice, not a sentence. After the initial series, sensible clinics stretch the interval to your skin's actual drift rate — and a schedule that never revisits its own necessity is serving the calendar, not you. At ₩30,000 per session the stakes stay honest either way, and the plan is reviewed, not auto-renewed, at each review.

Who is InMode actually for?

Three patient shapes fit it precisely. The maintenance-budget patient — wanting to act on early laxity without a seven-figure session, for whom Forma from ₩30,000 is the honest entry. The two-problem patient — oily, congested and softening — for whom FX addresses texture and firmness in one plan. And the between-rounds patient, holding a Thermage or HIFU result steady until the next round.

Who needs more than InMode: established jowls, significant laxity, or expectations of a visible lift — that is SMAS-depth work or threads, and the consultation will route you there rather than sell dermal maintenance into a structural job. The age-by-age version of that judgment is in what matters at 25, 35 and 45.

What does it cost, and how do you start?

InMode at JRYN starts at ₩30,000 per session — published, like everything, on the pricing page and detailed on the InMode treatment page, with your exact series quoted in writing at consultation and nothing added later per the no-upsell policy. A 45-minute session fits a lunch break; makeup goes back on before you leave.

Start with photos on WhatsApp and your goal in a sentence — firmer jawline, smaller pores, holding a result — and the FX-versus-Forma answer comes back with prices before you book. The clinic is registered Foreigner-Friendly, open through lunch, seven days a week, five minutes from Seomyeon Station Exit 2, two from Seomyeon Mall Exit 16, six from Lotte Department Store Busan Main, eight from Jeonpo Cafe Street; the deeper library lives in the Knowledge Center and real outcomes on the before and after page.

Our Medical Team

Who will actually treat you at JRYN Seomyeon?

A doctor, in person, every time — never a nurse or a coordinator. JRYN Seomyeon has three doctors, and the clinic was founded by Dr. Jeong Heon Lee, who still consults here. What you actually need is decided during the consultation after your skin is examined, not from a fixed package chosen in advance.

Three doctors, one standard of care.

Every treatment plan at JRYN Seomyeon is decided and performed in person by one of our doctors — led by Dr. Jeong Heon Lee, founder of JRYN Dermatology.

From the Founder

The consultation is the treatment.

Most patients arrive asking for a specific treatment. My job is to check whether it is the right one for what they actually have. Getting that wrong is the most common mistake I correct.

Before You Book

Questions patients ask first.

Forma is comfortable warmth throughout — no numbing, and many patients nearly doze. FX feels like brief hot pinpricks across the grid; topical numbing is available but most tolerate it easily. Neither approaches injection-level discomfort.

Effectively none. Forma leaves at most an hour of mild flush; FX redness settles within hours to a day and covers with makeup. Work, dinner and next-morning flights all proceed normally.

Let your skin decide: texture, pores and congestion point to an FX series; early laxity and firmness maintenance point to Forma; many plans run both in one 45-minute session. Photos by message get you the answer before booking.

FX texture change shows within one to two sessions; firmness from either handpiece builds cumulatively across a monthly series of four to six, then holds with spaced maintenance. Single-session judgment misreads the mechanism.

Depth and intensity. Thermage and HIFU deliver high-energy sessions to deeper layers — foundational, once-yearly work. InMode works the dermis at gentle intensity, repeatably — the maintenance and texture layer between those bigger rounds.

If the softness is skin laxity, RF firming genuinely helps. If it is a true fat pad, RF is the wrong first tool and we will say so — that anatomy routes to different treatments after proper assessment.

No. The initial series runs roughly monthly because collagen stimulus accumulates; after that, intervals stretch to your skin's actual drift rate. Any schedule that never revisits its own necessity deserves your suspicion.

Makeup immediately after Forma and within a day of FX; exercise the same evening for Forma, next day for FX. Aftercare is minimal — sunscreen diligence is the only standing instruction.
