What is XERF, and what does it do?
XERF
is a Korean monopolar radiofrequency platform of the latest generation. It runs at 4 MHz, a frequency chosen to heat the dermis more evenly than the 6.78 MHz of older devices, through a large single electrode with contact cooling before and after each pulse. The result is a comfortable session with deep, even heating, and a per-shot cost that lets a full face be treated at ₩1,100,000 for 300 shots rather than the ₩1,320,000 of Thermage FLX. A dedicated eye tip has its own page, Eye XERF.
At Boom Dermatology in Seomyeon, XERF is the device we offer to a patient who wants Thermage-class tightening on the skin layer with the most comfortable session of the three monopolar RF devices we run. It suits loose, crepey, mildly sagging skin on the cheeks, jawline and neck, once a year, and pairs with ultrasound when the deeper layer needs lifting as well.

The visit
What happens at a XERF session in Seomyeon?
This is how a XERF visit runs at Boom Dermatology, a skin clinic in Seomyeon, Busan, from the first message to the review.
1
Message first
Front and side photos on WhatsApp. The doctor replies with 300, 600 or 900 shots and the VAT-included price.
2
Consultation and grading
Skin thickness and the layer that has loosened set the energy level. The grid is drawn and the shot count goes on your record.
3
Numbing cream, thirty minutes
Topical anaesthetic; the cooled 4 MHz tip keeps the session at two to three out of ten for most patients.
4
Shots by the doctor
Cool, pulse, cool. The doctor adjusts energy per zone and asks you to grade the heat.
5
Out the door
Mild pinkness for an hour; sunscreen on; make-up fine. One minute to Seomyeon Station.
6
Two-week review
We message you for a photo. The result builds for three to six months.
How does Boom Dermatology dose XERF?
XERF is dosed in shots and energy levels, set by the doctor from your skin, not from a package.
Energy level
Thin skin takes a lower level; thick skin can take more. The cooling lets the doctor use higher levels comfortably.
Shot count
300 covers the face once; 600 adds a second lower-face pass; 900 adds the neck. The count is on your record.
Interval
One session, results that build for six months, repeated once a year.

Questions, answered properly
Is XERF a copy of Thermage or something different?
Same family, different generation. Both are monopolar RF: one large electrode, surface cooling, deep dermal heating. XERF runs at 4 MHz rather than 6.78 MHz, which spreads the heat more evenly through the dermis, and its cooling is stronger, so the session is more comfortable and hot spots are rarer. Thermage keeps the longest clinical record and the brand. At three months most patients at Boom Dermatology cannot tell the results apart.
Why choose XERF over Oligio at twice the price?
Depth of heating and comfort at higher energy. Oligio is excellent for a first RF and for thin skin; XERF delivers more energy per shot with cooling that lets the doctor use it, which matters on thicker skin and on a face that wants a yearly single session rather than a course. If you are not sure, the doctor will tell you which one your skin needs; we run both in the same room.
Does the cooling really change how it feels?
Yes. The surface is cooled before and after every pulse, so what you feel is a deep warmth rather than a hot pinch. Most patients at our Seomyeon skin clinic rate XERF two to three out of ten with numbing cream, lower than older RF generations.
How many XERF shots do I need?
Three hundred for the full face once, six hundred for a second pass on the lower face, nine hundred with the neck. The doctor decides after pressing the tissue and drawing the grid, and the count is written on your record in English.
Can I combine XERF with Ultherapy in the same week?
Yes, and it is a strong pairing: Ultherapy on the SMAS, XERF on the skin layer, in the same session or a few days apart. The doctor sets the total energy so the two do not overlap on the same tissue. Filler is scheduled two weeks away from either.
