Preparing for a Busan treatment trip, starting four weeks out.
The most common reason a treatment trip disappoints is preparation rather than the clinic. Arriving tanned, on the wrong actives, or with a schedule that leaves no settling time costs visitors treatments they flew for. This is the checklist.
Clinics rarely publish preparation guidance because it arrives too late to be useful — you read it after booking. This one is written for people still planning, and the single most important instruction sits four weeks before you fly.
Does This Sound Familiar?
What visitors ask when planning a treatment trip
How far ahead should I stop sun exposure?
Do I need to stop my retinoid or acids?
What should I bring to the consultation?
When in the trip should I book treatment?
What might I be turned away for?
All five come up almost every week. This page answers them in order, using the same information our coordinators send over WhatsApp before you fly.
Four weeks before Busan: stop the sun
This is the instruction most often ignored and the one that cancels most Busan treatments. Tanned skin cannot safely receive most light-based treatment, and no clinic can work around it.
Two weeks minimum
before any laser, and four weeks is safer
Self-tanner counts
— it absorbs light exactly as a real tan does
Incidental sun counts
— a week outdoors before flying is enough to disqualify you
Beach days in Korea count too
— sun on arrival cancels treatment on day four just as effectively
This rule is not negotiable at our Busan clinic, and being asked to reschedule after flying in is the outcome we are trying to help you avoid.
Why it matters mechanically: melanin in tanned skin competes for the energy meant for your target and raises burn and pigment risk sharply. Our guide for darker skin tones in Busan
explains the same mechanism in more depth.
Two weeks before Busan: adjust your routine
What to stop depends on what you are having done in Busan, so this is the point to confirm your treatment plan.
Retinoids
— pause three to seven days before laser or resurfacing, longer for aggressive protocols
Acids and strong exfoliants
— stop a week before anything ablative
Do not start anything new
— a reaction to a new product in the week before treatment cancels it
Keep barrier care going
— well-hydrated skin tolerates treatment better and heals faster
A word on over-preparation. Patients occasionally escalate their routine before a trip, reasoning that better skin will produce a better result. It produces the opposite — an irritated barrier that reacts badly and sometimes cannot be treated at all. Our sensitive skin guide for Busan
covers what over-treatment does.
Simplify rather than intensify in the fortnight before treatment. It is the single most useful thing you can do to your skin before flying.
One week before Busan: the small things
Blood-thinning supplements
— pause fish oil, vitamin E and similar for a few days before injectables, where your physician agrees
Alcohol
— skip the night before injections; it increases bruising noticeably
Dental work
— avoid scheduling it near filler treatment in the lower face
Cold sores
— if you get them, tell us before lip treatment; prophylaxis exists and matters
Photographs
— take a few in consistent lighting at home before flying
That last one is underrated. A baseline photograph taken in your own bathroom under your own lighting is far more useful for judging a result than clinic photographs alone, because it is the lighting you will judge yourself in for the next six months.
What to bring to the Busan consultation
Every product you apply
— or clear photographs of the labels, including sunscreen
Any prescription treatment
— packaging or a photograph, particularly for acne or eczema
A list of previous treatments
— what, when, which platform if you know it, and how your skin responded
Photographs of the problem at its worst
— flares, breakouts and redness that may not be visible on the day
Your actual schedule
— flight dates, events, and how much downtime you can absorb
The previous-treatment list matters most for anyone who has had lasers before. Knowing that your skin reacted badly to a particular platform changes settings immediately, and it is information no examination can recover.
For acne and eczema patients, bring the medication packaging. Korean pharmacies stock standard treatments and our doctors can prescribe an equivalent, but matching what you already use is far easier with the box in front of us — see our eczema guide for Busan.
Scheduling within the trip itself
The mistake visitors to Busan make most often is booking treatment on the last day.
Treatment
Book when
Why
Injectables
Early or mid trip
Swelling settles in 2–3 days; you see the result
Vascular laser
Any time
Little to hide, especially at purpura-free settings
Toning
Any time
No downtime, though a course needs months
Resurfacing
Early in trip
Healing runs 3–7 days depending on platform
Lesion removal
Early in trip
Crusts hold 7–10 days and travel better settled
Lip filler
Not before an event
Swelling is significant for 48 hours
Two general rules. Book anything with downtime early enough to see it settle, and never book anything within a week of an event you care about photographing. Our lip filler guide for Busan
covers the second rule in the zone where it is broken most often.
What we will not treat in Busan, and why
Being clear about this before you book a Busan appointment saves a wasted one.
Recently tanned skin
— rescheduled, without exception, for any light-based treatment
Active infection or inflammation
in the treatment area — settled first
Active cold sore
— lip and perioral work deferred
Pregnancy
— most injectables and lasers deferred as standard
Expectations that no treatment supports
— named at the consultation rather than treated around
The last one is the least mechanical and the most important. A consultation that ends with a smaller plan than you arrived expecting, or with no procedure at all, is a legitimate outcome — and at our Busan clinic it happens often enough that it is worth knowing before you fly.
A doctor, in person, every time — never a nurse or a coordinator. JRYN Seomyeon has three doctors, and the clinic was founded by Dr. Jeong Heon Lee, who still consults here. What you actually need is decided during the consultation after your skin is examined, not from a fixed package chosen in advance.
Three doctors, one standard of care.
Every treatment plan at JRYN Seomyeon is decided and performed in person by one of our doctors — led by Dr. Jeong Heon Lee, founder of JRYN Dermatology.
From the Founder
The consultation is the treatment.
Most patients arrive asking for a specific treatment. My job is to check whether it is the right one for what they actually have. Getting that wrong is the most common mistake I correct.

Before You Book
Questions patients ask first.
Two weeks minimum before any laser at our Busan clinic, four weeks is safer. Self-tanner counts, and sun after arriving in Busan cancels treatment just as effectively.
Pause three to seven days before laser or resurfacing, longer for aggressive protocols. Do not start anything new in the fortnight before treatment.
No — simplify. An irritated barrier reacts badly and sometimes cannot be treated at all, which is the opposite of what over-preparation intends.
Every product you use, any prescription packaging, a list of previous treatments and how your skin responded, and photographs of the problem at its worst.
Early enough in your Busan trip to see it settle. Injectables and resurfacing both benefit from being booked early rather than on the last day.
Recent tanning, active infection, cold sores near lip work, pregnancy, and expectations no treatment supports — all named before booking where possible.
Pause blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil and vitamin E for a few days before injectables, where your physician agrees.
Some — vascular laser and toning leave little to manage. Resurfacing and lesion removal are better booked early in a Busan trip.
Doctor-led planning across six categories. Foreign patients pay the same as local patients — what changes a final figure is units and area, never nationality.
