What is Excel V+, and what does it do?

Excel V+ (Cutera) is a vascular and pigment laser with two wavelengths. 532 nm KTP is absorbed strongly by haemoglobin and by melanin near the surface, so it clears flushing, fine capillaries, red spots and shallow brown spots. 1064 nm Nd:YAG reaches deeper, for larger vessels around the nose, deeper redness and overall tone, and is the safer wavelength on Asian skin. The handpiece has sapphire contact cooling, so the skin surface stays cool while the pulse reaches the target, and the doctor switches wavelength by target rather than treating the whole face one way. Triple mode adds a 1064 nm microsecond pass across the face for tone, pores and a mild collagen effect.

Downtime after Excel V+, and flying home

Honestly stated: treated vessels look darker and brown spots go a shade deeper on the day, which is the target being hit. Spots crust and flake over two to seven days; vessel marks fade in the same window. Make-up from the next morning; fly after 24 hours.

My face has red and brown together. Do I need two lasers?

No, one laser with two wavelengths, which is the point of Excel V+. The doctor treats a capillary with 532 nm, moves to a deeper vessel with 1064 nm and back to a brown spot with 532 nm in the same pass. A clinic with a single-wavelength vascular laser needs a second machine and a second visit for the brown; at Boom Dermatology it is one sitting.

Is 532 nm safe on Asian skin?

Safe at the right settings on lighter Asian skin, and avoided on darker skin. 532 nm is absorbed by melanin as well as blood, so on skin with more pigment it can darken the surface; that is why the doctor does test pulses on the jawline first, uses 1064 nm wherever it does the job, and will say so if your skin is better served by Clarity or RF. Post-inflammatory darkening is the risk every setting at our Seomyeon skin clinic is designed around.

Excel V or Vbeam: what decides?

The target. Vbeam is a 595 nm pulsed-dye laser, excellent for diffuse flushing and port-wine stains; Excel V+ reaches the same vessels at 532 nm and adds 1064 nm for depth and brown. For the mixed red-and-brown face that most patients bring us, Excel V+ does more in one visit; at our Busan skin clinic we chose it over Vbeam for that reason and say so on the Vbeam page.

How many sessions before tone looks even?

Discrete capillaries and red spots can go in one. Background flushing and mixed tone take three to five sessions four to six weeks apart, with a fixed-light photo at each; the four-week photo is the honest measure, not the mirror on the day. Rosacea is controlled, not cured, and needs a maintenance session once or twice a year.

What does triple mode add?

A third pass of 1064 nm in microsecond mode across the whole face, which heats the dermis gently for tone, pores and a mild collagen effect, the same idea as a Genesis-type treatment.
